Australian-Greek and Cohete team rider Alex Maniatis, talked to us about his unique experience while traveling in Japan this July.
I rode my #coheteAMS. Waves were tiny but it was amazing to see the Japanese surfing at such a high level. I couldn't believe how well they could surf tiny waves. I really had to bring the best out of myself to match the Japanese's high energy and enthusiasm on the waves.
In between events I explored the country with the quest of understanding and experiencing the Japanese culture and cuisine.
It was cool hanging out with the locals and making friends with the local surfers.
The first contest site, you could literally see the famous mount fuji (Highest mountain in Japan) from the contest site Murasaki Shonan Open (45 minutes south of Tokyo). I'm not used to seeing Black sand beaches so it made the experience unique.
